Vecna Cares™ Upgrades CliniPAK™ Units in Kenya
CAMBRIDGE, MA — The Vecna Cares Charitable Trust continues to work with clinics in the Transmara District of Kenya to bring healthcare IT solutions to remote communities. Last month, Vecna Cares upgraded the CliniPAK software at Enoosaen and Olereko clinics with new features for improved patient outreach, data capture and reporting capabilities. The upgraded CliniPAK units began data collection on August 1st, 2011.
These upgrades included patient cell phone number capture for automated alerts. This feature allows clinicians to schedule automatic text message reminders for patients receiving ongoing treatment and for mothers requiring post-natal care for themselves and their infants. New workflows for Maternal and Child Health clinics were also installed. These workflows included clinical decision support to determine at–risk mothers and infants requiring additional care. Also, the software was updated to include electronic reporting in national Ministry of Health standard formats, saving clinicians time in calculating data by hand and delivering reports in person.
This upgrade saves clinicians time, saves money by eliminating unnecessary patient and clinician travel, and saves lives through providing better longitudinal care for patients by improving information capture.
“The most important right is the right to health. You cannot claim other human rights or perform your parental obligations if you are not healthy,” says Simon Biegon, Ministry of Health Clinical Officer at Olereko Clinic. “Vecna’s solution to understanding and managing our community’s health is a noble idea. It is one of its kind in Africa and we are privileged to host it here.”
Vecna Cares’ CliniPAK units are ruggedized touch-screen laptops loaded with Vecna Technologies’ user–friendly healthcare IT software. These clinician–facing units are developed specifically for supporting remote and rural communities with healthcare software solutions for improved data capture, longitudinal patient care, and reporting capabilities.
