Vecna Medical presents educational infection surveillance webinar

CAMBRIDGE, MA — Vecna Medical sponsored an educational infection surveillance webinar entitled "NHSN Reporting: Complying with Current and Upcoming NHSN Reporting Requirements." The purpose of the webinar was to teach infection preventionists essential information about fulfilling NHSN reporting requirements.

In July 2010, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) organization released its final rule for the FY 2011 Hospital Inpatient Prospective Payment System (IPPS). CMS has required for the first time that all Medicare-participating hospitals report data on healthcare-associated infections (HAIs), specifically central line-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSIs) and surgical site infections (SSIs), through the National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Hospitals that do not submit CLABSI and SSI data will be subject to a reduction in their Medicare Annual Payment Update starting in FY 2013.

"Since NHSN reporting became mandatory for CMS reimbursements, we have been getting many questions from infection preventionists about the reporting process and how QC PathFinder® can help streamline their work," says Ron Urwongse, QC PathFinder Product Manager. "This webinar is designed to guide infection preventionists through the NHSN submission process and showcase QC PathFinder’s capabilities in supporting NHSN reporting."

The webinar was led by Joan Mallick (RN, PHD, CIC), Clinical Advisor at Vecna Medical. To access the recording of the webinar or to learn more about QC PathFinder and/or NHSN reporting, please feel free to contact Vecna Medical.
