COLLEGE PARK, MD — The Vecna Cares charitable organization sponsored its seventh annual College Park Cares 5K (CPC5K) charitable road race to benefit community and global health. This year, 232 runners registered for the race and nearly 30 private and corporate sponsors contributed donations and prizes.
This year's race brought together runners ranging in age from 5 to 73. The race took place on a USA Track and Field (USATF)-certified course along the banks of Lake Artemesia. Registration featured Vecna's own QC Kiosk™, a self-check-in portal used in hospitals throughout the United States. For this event, the kiosks recorded the racers' names, ages, bib numbers, and times for ease in reporting outcomes and tracking statistics.
The race was organized through Vecna Cares, the qualified 501(c)(3) charitable arm of Vecna Technologies, Inc., whose goal is to promote healthy lifestyles and community involvement.
Runner Shannon Hoffman identified her reason for participating in the race. "For me, it has something to do with the motivation that comes with accomplishing something together. Most challenges we face in our lifetimes are easier to overcome together. I don’t think I’m the only one to notice this power in camaraderie. Or at the very least, to appreciate it."
"The CPC5k has seen great success over the years," says race manager, Mike Bearman. "We are grateful for the community's spirited support."
Funds raised by nearly 200 runners and sponsors will benefit the Vecna Cares Charitable Trust's ongoing efforts to improve medical technology for underserved populations in Africa.
Vecna Cares Charitable Trust was established with the mission to build strong and healthy communities by improving access, quality, prevention, and critical needs of healthcare programs especially for resource-poor, rural, and under-served populations.
